Is Sheglam Makeup Safe? As styles and tastes in cosmetics change with the seasons, so too do the fortunes of the companies that make them. These days a product’s success is largely determined by customers’ comments on social media; not just reviews by influencers but those by everyday consumers, too. Thanks to digital platforms, we can quickly spread the word when a product surpasses its hype or, conversely, fails to live up to it. And today it’s not solely the quality of the products that determines people’s opinions of cosmetics companies. Consumers are committed to purchasing products that are less harmful to the environment, choosing goods that are wrapped in as little packaging as possible to lessen waste. And then there is animal testing; cruelty-free items are in high demand, as lab testing on animals is no longer acceptable to consumers, particularly young people. Sheglam makeup (sold only online) offers a range of cosmetics that has received a whole lot of attention on platforms like TikTok and Facebook. The parent company, Shein, began as a clothing e‑retailer site in 2012, and it has steadily grown in popularity every year since. It has become well known for selling fashionable clothing at reasonable prices, so it’s not surprising that the company branched out into makeup, too. In fact, the company website describes the platform as a “fashion and lifestyle e‑retailer” that ships products to more than 150 countries around the globe. According to the British financial website money.co.uk, Shein ranks number one in the category of “most searched fashion sites” in 113 countries across the world. It has captured that enviable spot since its debut on the list in 2021. That got us wondering: is Sheglam makeup deserving of the popularity and praise it’s getting? And perhaps more importantly, are the products sold by parent company Shein safe for consumers? Is the hype about Sheglam products accurate? And just as importantly, are these products really cruelty-free, vegan and inexpensive, as voices all over the world claim? We’ve done a little digging, and we’re pleased to report that Sheglam is definitely earning the global praise customers are lavishing on it. Not totally, perhaps, not right across the board. We found some makeup experts who included a few criticisms on their review sites. But overall, considering the low prices of some of Sheglam’s products, buyers can rest assured that the company deserves the loyalty users are demonstrating. In this article, we take a look at some of Sheglam’s most popular products. We also look at why Sheglam, in particular, and Shein more broadly, are both such successful e‑commerce enterprises. We even offer a little info about the specialty makeup Sheglam carries for special day parties. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether you want to buy makeup from an online retailer rather than going to an actual cosmetics counter and talking with knowledgeable staff who can make recommendations on products and prices that suit your individual needs and tastes. There is no question that Sheglam products are a bargain. Prices vary from just under $5 to approximately $13 for almost everything from foundation to lipstick to eye shadow to contouring liquid. Very few items in Sheglam’s line come with a price tag higher than $12.  But are they any good? What are the makeup experts saying, and what are consumers just like you reporting? Continue reading, and learn what everyone is saying about Sheglam. (Note: All the Sheglam products we discuss below are available on Amazon).

1- Sun Sculpt Liquid Contour – Warm Honey

Like almost all of Sheglam’s products, this liquid sculpting makeup is a true bargain – available on Amazon. And while we found some positive online feedback about this product, other users weren’t as enthusiastic. One reviewer said it doesn’t blend well with other products like blush, which is a big drawback for products designed to work together to highlight your facial features. Another complaint is that the vanilla scent is too strong; this was a common criticism of many of Sheglam’s products. It comes with an applicator that’s shaped like a cone, which users say works just fine.

2- Sheglam Color Blooming Liquid Blush Shimmer

This product comes in a range of colors, all of which have adorable, almost too cute names like “Risky Business” and “Hush Hush.” Some wearers found it didn’t last a full workday before needing to be reapplied. (The ability to stay looking and feeling great is an important feature for most women, particularly those in demanding jobs who can’t always duck away and refresh their makeup). This product won a 2023 Bustle Beauty Award, which tells us that plenty of women love the product – and it is available on Amazon.

3- Sheglam Press Refresh Setting Spray

This product promises to seal your makeup in place, so it lasts longer no matter what environment you’re exposed to throughout the day. Online reviews say this product works beautifully without making you feel like your face is covered in a thin layer of plastic wrap. Users also praise its fresh scent. Available on Amazon.

4- Sheglam 2 In 1 Black Volume & Length Waterproof Mascara

This smudge-proof mascara promises to last all day and well into the evening without clumping or rubbing off. Sheglam the curved brush is unique, making application easier than most other mascaras on the market. It’s “Leaping Bunny certified,” meaning it isn’t tested on animals, and available on Amazon.

5- Sheglam Soft 90s Glam 3‑In‑1 Lip Liner

This is one of Sheglam’s big success stories, as videos of users raving about this lip gloss have gone viral on TikTok. Available on Amazon.

6- Fin Within Glitter Eye Shadow Palette

Sheglam says these shadows are “richly pigmented,” meaning the shades are deep and rich, and they don’t wear off easily during your night out on the town. The eye shadows are made with skin-friendly ingredients that won’t harm your complexion and are safe for even the most delicate skin. The palette is available on Amazon.

7- Insta-Ready Face & Under Eye Setting Powder

This loose, translucent powder comes in two compartments, one for under your eyes and the other form your chin, cheeks, forehead and nose. It has a sheer look that won’t cover even the lightest foundation or concealer – it just keeps it all in place. Online reviews are solidly good. Available on Amazon.

In Summary

Sheglam Makeup boasts an impressive array of cosmetics at cost-effective prices, making it an enticing choice for makeup enthusiasts. However, there are some considerations to weigh before diving into purchases from this popular online retailer. Shein, the parent company of Sheglam, is renowned for offering budget-friendly fast fashion. At first glance, this might seem like an advantageous option for those seeking affordable style. For instance, spending $100 can yield a significant haul. But the question arises: is this necessarily a deterrent? Fast fashion has garnered attention for its environmental impact, often criticized for its transient nature and lack of longevity. The query then becomes: should one support a company with such practices? Or is it equally valuable to invest in clothing and makeup that endure, minimizing the need for frequent disposals and contributing to less landfill waste? Moreover, does it hold merit to consider supporting local retailers to bolster community economic health? These are multifaceted questions, each deserving consideration. In a world grappling with escalating prices, particularly concerning food and fuel, the desire for durable clothing and lasting makeup holds merit. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that this may not always align seamlessly with one’s financial circumstances. For those seeking a balance between staying stylish and maintaining affordability amidst budget constraints, Shein’s product line, including Sheglam makeup, presents a practical solution. Ultimately, the decision to opt for Sheglam products or similar brands remains a personal choice, influenced by a myriad of factors such as individual preferences, financial considerations, and environmental awareness.
